Editorial Policy
What we publish, what we refuse to publish, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Independence
We accept no sponsored placements, no paid inclusion in any ranking, and no free products. No manufacturer has been given advance sight of anything on this site, and none has any influence over what appears here.
We earn affiliate commission when a reader buys through one of our links. That is our only revenue, it is disclosed above the first affiliate link on every commercial page as well as in the footer, and it does not affect rank order - the commission rate is effectively identical across the products we compare, so there is no commercial incentive to prefer one. Sourcing standard
Every factual claim on this site is one of four things:
- A cited primary source, linked and attributed by name
- A manufacturer’s published figure, attributed to that manufacturer
- Live retailer data, attributed and date-stamped
- Our own arithmetic on one of the above, with the working shown
Nothing else is publishable here. If a figure is none of those, it does not go on the page - we write “we could not find a published figure” instead, and you will see that phrasing in several product write-ups.
We cite sources as sources. “The EPA recommends keeping indoor humidity below 60%” - never “we found that 60% is the ceiling.” Restating someone else’s published guidance as our own finding would be a claim to research we did not do.
What we will never publish
- A testing claim. We have not tested these units. No “in our testing”, no hours-of-testing figure, no lab.
- A credential we do not hold. No certifications, no medical review, no expert panel, no professional qualification of any kind.
- A fabricated review or testimonial. Mist & Meter has no customers and sells nothing directly, so there are no reviews of us to publish - and we will not invent any.
- A remembered price. Prices come from a live data layer or they do not appear.
- A self-authored product rating in structured data. Our visible editorial score is content. It never appears as a
RevieworaggregateRatingin the page’s JSON-LD, because that would assert to a search engine that we had reviewed a product we have not tested. - Urgency or scarcity language. Nothing here is a limited-time offer and we are not running a promotion.
Corrections
If something on this site is wrong, email info@mistandmeter.com with the page and the figure. You do not need to explain why it matters.
- We respond within seven days and correct within the same window where the error is confirmed.
- Corrections are marked visibly on the page, with the date and what changed. We do not quietly edit a number and move on.
- The last-updated date changes whenever content changes, which is also what drives the date in our sitemap.
The whole argument of our methodology page is that our numbers are checkable. That is worth nothing unless we act when somebody checks them.
Update cadence

The health boundary
Several topics here touch the body: congestion, nosebleeds, coughs, allergy symptoms, dust mites. This is the line we hold, and we hold it strictly.
We write about the environment - relative humidity, airborne particles, ventilation, filtration, what a device does to the air in a room, and what the EPA and AHAM publish about environmental thresholds.
We do not write about the body. No diagnosis, no treatment, no medication, no dosage, and no statement about what any individual’s symptoms mean. Every health-adjacent page carries a plain note saying so and pointing persistent symptoms to a clinician.
Competitors in this space buy authority by citing named doctors. We cannot do that honestly, so we do the opposite: cite the EPA and AHAM on the environment, and hand the body to someone qualified.
